Unlike her most recent Hollywood look, Mary's diligence was neither slim nor fair skinned.

The Harder They Fall, a late 1800s revenge movie with a bit of history, premiered on Netflix on November 3 and was produced by Sean "J-Z" Carter. The film features fantastic and impressive characters from Regina King, Idris Elba and Jonathan Majors.

This movie, one of the most anticipated movies of the year, requires a historical narrative as we have multiple starring roles playing real blacks from African American history. One of these people is Stagecoach Mary. Mary Fields, also known as the Stagecoach Mary or Black Mary, was the first African-American star mail carrier in the United States.  techgeeksblogger

If you dig a slight deeper into who Mary's diligence was, you can find historical sources where she is mentioned as brave, brave, that she carries a rifle and drinks. She was smart and did whatever it took to protect the other errands.

Stagecoach Mary was a dark-skinned, heavy-set, dark-skinned woman who wore men's clothing and became a Wild West legend. So why does Zazie Bitz play the role of Stagecoach Mary?

Who was Mary Fields, aka Stagecoach Mary?

Maria diligence

Mary Fields, also known as Carriage Mary

Carriage Mary was born in Tennessee in 1832 and was released after the Civil War. During this time of new-found freedom, she moved north of her work along the Mississippi River, where she worked as a servant to families, and put down roots in Ohio, where she took refuge and took refuge in a monastery.

In the monastery, she Maria worked as a gardener, often fighting with other nuns. Maria was not a subordinate woman, although at that time (and still today) white women believed that this should be the role of black women; shut up and accept what is given to them.

Maria often resisted her words and she was not afraid to stand up when she felt she was being mistreated. She was not afraid to come into contact with anyone and, as you know, she was a "dirty word".

Maria was expelled from the monastery after she directed fire, her weapon, at a janitor. This led Mary to hire the postal service in 1895, becoming the second woman to carry and deliver mail and the first black woman. For eight years, Maria protected the mail from thieves and bandits. She retired with an old-age pension at the beginning of the 20th century.

Erasing Maria

I painted this picture of Mary for you because, believe it or not, Mary's historical context adjacent to her skin color and size is why Hollywood would portray her as a "fair-skinned, slim, arrogant black woman ". .. the strong, tall and strong black black that she was.

Mary Fields, also known as Stagecoach Mary

In Hollywood, as in many other cultures, black women and older women still see masculine and "aggressive" black women, and if you are masculine and aggressive, it is much more difficult for viewers to believe that you may one day become a love interest. . . to your own story.

This is ironic because every historical male figure who was supposed to be black has been abandoned by a black man. I really think this is ace of the many reasons why Mary's diligence has not been adequately portrayed in this new Netflix movie; because nobody falls in love with a fat black woman.

We still live in an era where fat black women and the most marginalized people are considered to be less worthy of attention and care, so when we watch TV, movies or any media to see a fat black woman During any length of time that love is loving, the interest is laughable to most and incredible at best.

Cartoons and stereotypes

I know from experience and see it every day when fat black women and girls, especially black women, should never "have a boy." Instead of being a lover, you are a bully. Stereotypes like these explain why the caricature of the mom of fat black women as asexual is still in the media, and why I continue to defend the racial identity of gordofobia.

Someone in the body that Zazie Bitz is in will never experience the harm that someone in a body like Mary Fields' could suffer. When you are a fat, tall, dark-skinned woman, you are subject to this type of violence. And the media agrees. How can you focus on your love life when you spend so much time staying alive and getting rid of harm?
